Ararat Rural City Council in collaboration with Ararat Neighbourhood House, Rural Australia for Refugee and Welcoming Australia, will host a family-friendly BBQ in Alexandra Gardens to celebrate Welcoming Week on Sunday 10 September.
Fun activities including a game of volleyball and caneball, plus a free barbecue will be provided from 11am – 2pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring a dish that reminds them of home.
Celebrated globally, Welcoming Week brings together neighbours of all backgrounds to build stronger connections and acknowledges the importance of fostering welcoming and inclusive communities.
Council Chief Executive Officer Dr Tim Harrison commented on Council’s commitment to creating places where everyone can belong, contribute and thrive.
“Welcoming Week celebrations present an opportunity for our community to show strong support and welcome people from all backgrounds to our municipality,” Dr Harrison said.
