Presented by the Deaf Society, Sign Language 1 offers students a unique and fun experience of learning how to communicate visually using Auslan, the native language of the Australian Deaf community.

There are seven sessions in this course which will run on Thursday evenings, 6-8pm, commencing on 23 May:

Over these seven sessions participants will learn to:

Greet others and introduce yourselfGive and request personal information, including phone numbers and addressesFingerspell in AuslanCount in AuslanAsk simple questions, using “who”, “what”, “when”,“where”, “why” and “which”Communicate practical and short vocabulary, including colours, days of the week, and family relationships (“mother”, “sister”, “aunt”, etc.)Express agreement and disagreementUse visual-gestural communication strategiesIdentify the Deaf CommunityExplain effective ways of communicating with deaf people.
