Slipping Away is a poetic suite of paintings by Central Coast artist Chris Bates lamenting the looming devastation of climate change. Harnessing the power of art for social change, this series was conceived to counter the threat of inaction on the environment. Her paintings contrast the great beauty of natural elements with menacing suggestions of ecological disaster.

Chris Bates is an artist, teacher and writer who lives on the Central Coast. She holds a Masters of Education from the University of NSW College of Fine Arts, and was awarded the inaugural Dean's Award for Services to Visual Arts and Design Education in 2004.
