Double Bay Library is moving!

The Double Bay Library and the Local History Centre are now closed, while we relocate to our exciting new library in the main shopping hub of Double Bay. The new library is expected to open at the end of May.

During the closure a pop-up Library will be provided outside our new home at: Level 1 Kiaora Place 451 New South Head Road (next door to The Sheaf) Double Bay

The pop-up library will open from 10am to 1pm, 7 days a week, until the new library opens.

A limited selection of new releases and the most popular items will be available at our pop-up. We will also continue to supply items requested from Paddington or Watsons Bay Libraries as holds and reservations. Don't forget, we have a huge selection of eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines and more available anytime on our website: http://www.woollahra.nsw.gov.au/library

To assist our members, a longer loan period will be provided to items borrowed immediately before and during the closure.

Returns can be made to the pop-up library or Paddington and Watsons Bay Libraries during the closure.

While the Local History Centre is being relocated to the new library, we will not have access to our collection or resources. We will therefore be unable to complete research enquiries  during the closure. We apologize for any inconvenience caused, and look forward to recommencing our Local History services in a more accessible space soon.

Our current library in the historic St Brigid's building, Blackburn Gardens is much loved by our members and community. However we've simply outgrown the 119-year-old building, which has become unfit for purpose as a modern library due to lack of space, parking and accessibility.

Council is in the process of considering future uses for the St Brigid's building and are committed to ensuring this space remains for public enjoyment. A feasibility study has been undertaken by consultants and Council has sought Expression of Interests (EOIs) from experienced operators for the use of the ground floor of St Brigid's as a café/restaurant/function centre to complement the garden setting. The proposed use /s of the first floor of the building is being considered as a Council operated art gallery and /or a venue for Council activities and community cultural uses. At the completion of the EOI, Council will make a determination about the future use of the St Brigid's building.
