West Coast Council has confirmed that its Rosebery agency will now be located at Rosebery District High School.
The move comes after Council was forced to advertise quickly for a new agency provider following the decision by Australia Post to relocate postal services from the Rosebery Post Office to the local IGA Supermarket, without conducting an expression of Interest process first.
“Whilst we have been lobbying hard with Australia Post, Federal politicians and other stakeholders to push for a good outcome for the community of Rosebery overall, our efforts have been ignored. Quite separate from the political arena, Council itself was using the Post Office as an agency for Council business and following the non-consultative process undertaken by Australia Post, Council has been left with no alternative other than to source a new provider to act as an agency for our business in Rosebery,” West Coast Mayor Phil Vickers said.
“Following our own Expression of Interest process we are pleased to announce that Rosebery District High School are the preferred provider, with Council Agency services effective from 1st August.”
Council thanked Principal Duncan Murfet and School Business Manager Steve Fitzallen for their commitment to the Rosebery community.
“School staff have indicated a desire to increase engagement with the community and in taking on the agency role Rosebery District High School and West Coast Council are meeting outcomes adopted by the West Coast community in the West Coast Community Plan 2025 to build partnerships and increase leadership roles,” Council General Manager Dirk Dowling said.
“Steve has many years’ experience in the operation of the Agency, having worked previously at the Rosebery Post Office,” Mr Dowling stated. “This will be invaluable and will provide a smooth transition of services from the current agency location.”
The Council Agency will be open from 8.30am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, with Rosebery District High School confirming the agency will be open during school holidays, closing only for Statutory Public Holidays.
