Thursday 20 July 2017
At its meeting on Tuesday 18 July, Wellington Shire Council resolved to adopt the West Sale Airport Master Plan Update 2017 (the Master Plan).
The Master Plan follows a new format that aligns with the Australian Airports Association’s Regional Airports template, provides data on aircraft movements and includes detail on the runway extension and Eastern Recreational Aviation Precinct freehold development. Airservices Australia have also endorsed the airport’s Australian Noise Exposure Forecast (ANEF).
An extensive consultation process was undertaken with over twenty meetings arranged with stakeholders, correspondence sent to government departments, agencies and authorities, and public feedback invited. The feedback received has been incorporated into the final document, where applicable.
Wellington Shire Council General Manager Development John Websdale said: “The Master Plan will be used to guide future activities and development at West Sale Airport, and will provide strategic level support for an amendment to the Wellington Planning Scheme that is required as part of the runway extension project.”
The runway extension project has genuine national, state and local significance as from 2020 all Australian Defence Force pilots will be trained at RAAF Base East Sale with Council’s West Sale Airport playing a key supporting role.
