At its meeting of 15 August 2017, Council resolved to adopt Amendment C92 (Part2), which applies the Heritage Overlay to the former Federal Coffee Palace in Yarram.

The decision follows the recommendations of an independent Planning Panel appointed by the Minister for Planning to consider an objection to the proposal.

Wellington Shire Council Mayor Carolyn Crossley said: “The Panel considered the objection and concluded that the former Federal Coffee Palace meets the criteria for historic and aesthetic significance.”

It will join 66 other places of historical significance that were formally afforded statutory protection within the Wellington Planning Scheme through the application of the Heritage Overlay on 13 July 2017.

Council’s Heritage Strategy has also been adopted. The Strategy reaffirms Council’s commitment to the recognition and protection of heritage for future generations and outlines the approach to be taken in considering heritage matters.
