Old hands and newcomers took their place in Council chambers for the official swearing in of the new Barkly Regional Council.

New President Steve Edgington and councillors Kris Civitarese, Jack Clubb, Ricky Holmes, Jeffrey McLaughlin, Ronald Plummer and Sid Vashist joined old hands councillors Ray Aylett, Noel Hayes, Lucy Jackson and Hal Ruger at the ceremony on Wednesday, 13 September conducted by Minister for Housing and Community Development Gerry McCarthy, MLA Barkly.
Ronald Plummer presented a Welcome to Country with friends, family and members of the public in attendance for the ceremony.
Councillors Jane Evans and Jennifer Mahoney were an apology and will be sworn-in at a later date.
President Steve Edgington said it was a proud moment for himself and his fellow councillors.
“I look forward to building a strong team to start planning for the future of the Barkly region over the next four years.”
Following the swearing-in was an induction and the first Ordinary meeting in which the Deputy President will be determined.
The Deputy President is nominated for a period of 12 months, before a re-election takes place.
