Key industry leaders descend on Tennant

A landmark two-day conference plans to put the Barkly on the map

Council Mayor Steve Edgington will address a two-day Barkly Regional Resources and Economic Development Conference held at the Civic Hall in late October. Mayor Edgington said it is a landmark event for the Barkly region and businesses, bringing together key leaders from the mining, petroleum, pastoral, transport and infrastructure industries under the one roof to discuss the latest opportunities and major project developments. "With the construction of the Northern Gas pipeline, the re-opening of mothballed mines and the NT Government awarding 'major project' status to several mining projects, the two-day conference comes at a time of abundant opportunities for resources exploration in the region, for infrastructure projects and for agribusiness consolidation," he said. Topics on the agenda include mining and exploration in the Barkly region, onshore and offshore gas projects, legacy mine remediation and clean-up, overview of the cattle industry, improving competitiveness for local businesses and the role of exploration technology for the future. With key contributions from Origin Energy, Jemena, Emmerson Resources, OM Holdings, Verdant Minerals, Geoscience Australia, Deloitte, NT Geological Survey, Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the NT Industry Capability Network, there were around 50 delegates attending, including the Minister for Housing and Community Development Gerry McCarthy and Primary Industries Minister Ken Vowles. Convened by Informa Australia, the conference, from 24-25 October, is supported by the Northern Territory Government.
