Balmoral Promenade has been reopened after refurbishment works were completed on schedule and within budget. The footpath design, which has attracted positive feedback, was settled on with input from the Visual Amenity Community Consultative Committee, architects and structural engineers and was in keeping with the heritage significance of the seawall.
The works will remain in place for the next 50 years and because of their significance it was considered important the project was not rushed to ensure high quality standards were maintained. Further works will now be carried out around the Rotunda in March and April while additional concrete seating will be installed south of Balmoral Baths after the Easter holidays in 2018.
In another major upgrade, designs for the new-look Mosman Junction roundabout have been completed and the project will go to tender before Christmas so that works can start in the New Year. Pedestrian access will be improved and footpaths widened with additional lighting installed to promote outdoor dining in line with community requests for additional outdoor and evening dining opportunities.
Residents and businesses will be notified of temporary changes to road access once project timelines are known.
The project is part of Council’s ongoing renewal of Balmoral infrastructure, which over the past decade has included the Rotunda, toilet blocks, baths and last year’s playground renewal.
