Black Rock Primary School choir jumping for joy

Christmas cheer has the Black Rock primary school choir jumping for joy in the countdown to performing in front of an expected 20,000 strong crowd at this year’s Carols in the Park.

“The excitement level is through the roof,” says Black Rock Primary School music teacher Peter Murnane of the 33-member choir which has spent months in rehearsals, finely tuning their voices for Bayside’s Christmas extravaganza in Dendy Park.

Each year schools are selected on a rotation basis to perform at the gala event in front of thousands of Christmas loving locals and visitors who each pack a picnic, grab a deck chair and head to Bayside’s biggest night of the year.

“The children, their families and the staff were thrilled to pieces when we found out it would be us,” says Peter “there’s been a really exciting vibe around the school”.

This year’s Carols in the Park line up also includes Star of Sea College performers, the Southern Area Concert Band, Vocally Wild and the Mosaic choir - to name just a few.

Children’s activities will commence from 5pm with the Carols in the Park main concert, hosted once again by Channel 10’s Mike Larkin, kicking off at 7.30pm.  

Keep your eye peeled for an extra special visitor who is sure to drop by.

Weather permitting, 200 kgs of jaw dropping fireworks will burst 200 meters into the night sky for the spectacular finale from 9.30pm.

The Black Rock Primary School choir will be performing one song “Where Shall We Go This Christmas” and will wear Christmas costumes donated by one Black Rock family.
