Getting strategic about our trees

From the magnificent River Red Gums in so many of our parks to the shade-giving Pin Oaks lining our leafy streets, trees are a huge part of Boroondara life. 

As part of our commitment to protecting Boroondara’s trees, we have adopted a new 10-year Tree Strategy and Tree Strategy Action Plan. These will ensure that the decisions we make regarding trees in our public spaces preserve our City’s liveability while creating a sustainable urban forest for current and future generations.

After two rounds of community consultation when developing the strategy, we now know that our residents feel just as strongly about Boroondara’s trees as we do. Your feedback was invaluable in helping us understand what you value most about our trees and your aspirations for them into the future. 

Thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts! As you may know, it is thought that Boroondara was named after an Aboriginal word from the Woiwurrung language (as spoken by the Wurundjeri), meaning “where the ground is thickly shaded” -- and our Tree Strategy will help us keep it that way.
