Barkly Regional Arts is running a writing competition to select six animal stories for the Desert Harmony Festival project, Festival Fauna: From Junk to Funk. Write about an animal from the Barkly region. It can be a true story or made up, but each piece must be at least 500 words. Each animal story selected will then be created into a musical sculpture. Barkly Arts Artistic Director Kathy Burns asks writers to include as much information about the animal as possible in the story. "This will help with the design of the sculpture," she says. "Things to include are description, colour, size and any sounds the animal may make." Stories will be printed and displayed next to the musical sculpture for audiences to read. Winners will receive $100 for their story. Click here for an entry form. Submit entries to [email protected] or drop into Barkly Regional Arts at 65 Staunton Street. Deadline is Saturday, 3 March.
