Off-Leash Area Opened to The Public

Members of the public are encouraged to bring their four-legged companions down to Carbeen Park (on Carbeen Street behind the cemetery) to celebrate the opening of Moree’s first off-leash area on Wednesday 28 February from 8am to 6pm.

The opening celebrations includes free microchipping for dog and cat owners (the first step in Lifetime Registration of pets) and Vicki from Swish Swash Dog Wash will be there if you want to spoil your pooch with a bath (fees apply).

Moree Plains Shire Council’s Environment and Compliance Manager, Dane Graham explained the new off-leash area will provide pet owners with space where their dogs can run freely and exercise without being on a lead.

“The off-leash area has been a regular item on the community’s wish list and we are delighted to see the area is now open for public use.”

“We want this to be a fun experience for you and your pet, so ensure your dog is on a lead when entering and exiting the park, pick up their faeces and be in control of the animal at all times,” said Mr Graham.

On the day, all pets must be secured for the safety of those attending the event, with dogs on a secure collar and controlled by a leash and cats either in a carrier or personally held at all times.

Located behind the Moree cemetery, south of Carbeen Street, the site includes plenty of parking for pet owners and a wide expanse of open space for dogs to run around in.

While you are at the opening, Council is offering free microchipping, which legally has to be done before your animal is 12 weeks of age.

Microchipping is the first part of the two-step process, and is followed by Lifetime Registration of your four-legged mate, which lawfully must be completed by the time the animal is six months of age.

Microchipping and Lifetime Registration will help you be reunited with your pet if it goes missing, is taken to a vet, pound or animal shelter.
