YPC to Install Tesla Destination Charging

YPC was successful in obtaining eight Tesla Destination Chargers through a competitive application process. Tesla were offering 50 charging stations to South Australian businesses as part of their industry participation aligned to the Hornsdale Energy Park’s Tesla battery.

Electric vehicle usage across the world is growing year on year. According to the International Energy Agency, the number of electric vehicles on the road has skyrocketed to 2 million after being essentially non-existent five years ago. Yorke Peninsula Council CEO Andrew Cameron said “We are excited to be chosen to install as many as eight units.  Electric cars are at the cutting edge of motoring technology.  As the industry expands, Yorke Peninsula will now be ready for this change”.

Four of the eight charging stations will be provided for use free of charge for both residents and visitors. One will be installed at each Ardrossan, Minlaton, Port Vincent and Yorketown.

The remaining four will be used to compliment some of the new high-end cabins recently built in Council’s Holiday Parks. Two Destination Chargers will be attached to the new Luxepod cabins in the Point Turton Caravan Park, one situated with the luxurious 3 bedroom villa built in the Port Vincent Foreshore Caravan Park and one attached to the executive cabin in the Marion Bay Caravan Park.

“This is a deliberate strategy to have the charging stations partnered with our new high end accommodation. We want to attract a new niche market of visitors to the Peninsula” said Andrew Cameron. “Families with electric cars will be specifically searching for destinations that can provide car charging as part of their accommodation package”.

The Tesla Destination Chargers will be installed by local electrician Ashley Gaghan, Nu-Gen Power Solutions who is already an accredited Tesla installer.
