The Local Government Board Review into Voluntary Amalgamations and Shared Services for Sorell and Tasman Councils has been finalised. The Minister for Local Government has published the Board’s final report and it is now available for the public to view.
The Board recommends that Sorell and Tasman Councils pursue voluntary amalgamation, because of its potential to deliver a range of financial and strategic benefits for the Councils and the community.

On 21 August at their ordinary Council meeting, Sorell Council voted yes unanimously to amalgamate with Tasman Council. On Wednesday 22 August at their ordinary Council meeting, Tasman Council voted three for and four against an amalgamation. Accordingly, there will be no amalgamation.
