Thousands attend Bring It On! Festival

The massive live music, sport and arts Festival is Council’s flagship NSW Youth Week event and on Sunday 15 April attracted thousands to Fairfield Showground.

“Council sought to deliver something new and exciting with the Fairfield Warrior competition and we’ve proudly achieved that with more than 4,000 people flocking to this year’s Bring It On! Festival,” Mayor of Fairfield City Frank Carbone said.

“People from as far flung as the Central Coast signed up to compete in our first ever Fairfield Warrior competition, which was the true highlight of our action-packed event.”

Fairfield Warrior competitors tested their strength and stamina in a custom built obstacle course which featured nine obstacle zones including suspended ropes, a climbing wall and crash pool. The finalists in the Open Competition celebrated their impressive wins, holding their trophies high in a midst of fireworks and confetti.

“The winners of the Fairfield Warrior open competition were 26 year old Cameron McLintock from East Gosford in the male category, who completed the course with a time of just 59 seconds, and 23 year old Gemma Rolfe from Saratoga in the female category, who won with a time of 1 minute 52 seconds. They each received a trophy and cheque for $1,000,” Mayor Carbone said.

“In the Fairfield Warrior school age competition, Hinchinbrook sister-brother duo Ivana Djakovic, 17, and Nikola Jozo Djakovic, 16, each won in their respective categories. The Freeman Catholic College students each received a cheque for $500.”

In addition to Fairfield Warrior, Festival attendees enjoyed singing along to live performances from popular youth acts including X-Factor finalist Vlado Saric, Rachael Fahim and local band Yours Truly, along with more than 20 other awesome acts.

Amazing entertainment also included carnival rides, an inflatable obstacle course, sports and yard games, dance battles, live street art, a photo booth, LEGO Zone, slot car and racing simulators, face painting, a youth services precinct, food trucks and giveaways provided by sponsors.

Community organisations proudly got involved with more than 40 organisations providing a range of great activities, information and small prizes such as 300 NRL tickets, free headphones, Hoyts movie tickets, Bowlarama and Timezone passes. It was the strongest representation of community organisations in the Festival’s history.

“Bring It On! Festival is just the start of Council’s 2018 NSW Youth Week program, with other great events being held each day until Monday 23 April,” Mayor Carbone said.

“I encourage young people in Fairfield City to take part in our many fun, interesting and educational Youth Week activities which include a live music event at Bonnyrigg Youth Centre, an open day at Bonnyrigg Skate Park, an outdoor movie screening of Wonder Woman and a climate action table talk at Nalawala Sustainability Centre, to name a few.”
