East Gippsland Shire Council’s project to replace Buchan-Orbost Road Bridge is on schedule with beams for the bridge’s deck due to arrive onsite in the next four weeks.
The old timber bridge was the last multi-span timber bridge in the shire and is being replaced with a concrete and steel bridge.
The project began in January with construction of a side track to maintain vehicle access.
All crossheads are complete, with the concrete poured for the final crosshead a fortnight ago. Crossheads support the bridge deck so work will soon begin on this next stage of the project.
The project will cost $1,828,946, excluding GST, and is 50 per cent funded under the Australian Government’s Bridge Renewal Programme.
The bridge is expected to be completed in late August 2018.
