Mosman Junction upgrade

The first stage of a major upgrade to Mosman Junction has begun with construction works on the first of two alfresco dining areas underway.

The changes will create a new pedestrian-friendly outdoor space and will include landscaping works and the installation of additional lighting and outdoor furniture to promote outdoor dining along with new pedestrian crossings which will be installed at Middle Head and Bradleys Head roads and Prince Albert Street and the closure of a slip lane.

The project follows community requests for additional outdoor and evening dining opportunities and works are being staged in five sections to reduce the impact to residents, businesses and road users as temporary street and footpath closures will be required.

The first stage which includes installation of outdoor dining areas on the eastern and southern side of the roundabout involves the closure of footpath areas and will finish by mid-May 2018.

The second stage, which began in late April running until 25 May, involves the construction of a pedestrian crossing and improvements to the roundabout. As part of the works, there will be a temporary closure on Middle Head Road and some night works. The third and fourth stages, which are programmed from early June to early August will focus on Bradleys Head Road and Prince Albert Street and will include partial road closures. The final stage, currently set for August will involve the installation of lighting, furniture and landscaping. The upgrade is scheduled for completion in late August 2018.

Notification of temporary road closures is being provided to local residents and businesses. Additionally, there will be temporary changes to parking and public transport. For further information, please refer to the Council’s Works and Alerts website.

Access will be maintained to all restaurants, cafes and shops around Mosman Junction but there will be some parking restrictions where needed.

The Jacaranda tree located in front of The Buena has been removed. Council’s arborists have examined the root system with respect to the new kerb and advised it was not possible to retain the tree unless its structural roots were removed. Accordingly, Council has removed the existing tree and will replace it with an advanced Jacaranda.
