Delivering for you: our revised Council Plan and proposed Budget

The revised 2017-21 Council Plan and proposed Budget 2018-19 include a number of exciting projects that will have far-reaching benefits for the wider Boroondara community.

This is the first council plan and budget to be informed by the Boroondara Community Plan - a ten year guide for our city’s future - which is based on extensive feedback from the community.  Over a six-month period, Council received 11,845 responses from residents who told us what they want, and what matters to them in Boroondara.

The Council Plan and Budget were both developed with that feedback in mind, to ensure Council is prioritising the things our community told us are important to them.

Highlights of the revised Council Plan 2017-21 and Budget 2018-19 include:

This is one of many facilities earmarked for improvement, with plans to completely rebuild the centre so it better meets the needs of the community in terms of quality and functionality, both now and into the future.

Some of the proposed components include new indoor sports courts, a dedicated learn-to-swim pool and a child-friendly indoor aqua play area.

Boroondara will investigate the introduction of a food organics collection service aimed at reducing the volume of waste deposited in landfills, maximise recycling and achieve sustainable environmental outcomes.

This program could potentially divert up to 19,000 tonnes of food waste that currently ends up in landfill.

Council also plans to invest in digital transformation projects that will make it faster and easier than ever before for residents to interact with Council and find the information they need. Investing in digital technology means we can ensure we meet the community’s expectations for services, enabling convenient, fast transactions and easy access to information.

A brand new Ashburton Seniors Centre is set to be designed and completely rebuilt with the aim of creating a space that is easily accessible and better suited to deliver the activities and services the community needs.

Key features will include a new, age-friendly design, fit-for-purpose community spaces and a modern kitchen and dining area to support seniors’ activities.

 A redevelopment of the Balwyn Community Centre will create additional and more functional spaces, improve the condition of the buildings and site features, and co-locate early years services onsite.

Key features include a new building with a first floor at the rear of the community centre with new and multifunctional spaces, a new occasional child care centre for 20 children aged 0-5, an expanded Balwyn Maternal and Child Health Centre for children aged 0-4 years, an increase in on-site car parks without reducing the open space, enhancements to the parkland setting, and an expanded community garden.
