Council has completed its recruitment process to fill two key executive roles within its organisation with the appointment of a Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

The COO role has been filled by Sydney-based civil engineer Anthony Misagh (pictured), while Council's former Manager Finance, Jay Nankivell, has been elevated to the CFO role.

Mr Misagh has an extensive education and employment history in various disciplines of engineering, meanwhile Mr Nankivell has held senior finance positions with Councils in Broken Hill and Alexandrina in South Australia, along with the NSW Government's Local Land Services.

Council's General Manager, James Roncon, said both appointments represented a great outcome for Broken Hill.

"Anthony's engineering and project background is extremely solid and fills a significant void in our organisation; he's worked extensively in that field while also pursuing studies in business, risk management, and project management,” he said.

“He will bring a level of expertise to Council that has been missing for many years, and provide a valuable boost to our Infrastructure team, particularly in our management of major projects and their delivery.

"And it was a real pleasure to appoint Jay to the position of CFO.

"After getting his start with Broken Hill Council he’s gone on to gain further experience in South Australia and with the NSW Government, before returning as management accountant, then Manager Finance, and now serving as CFO.

"It really strengthens communities like Broken Hill when a local is able to branch out, gain valuable skills, and bring them back to serve their home town."

Mr Nankivell has commenced his duties as CFO after being appointed on April 30, while Anthony and family are expected to relocate to the city in early July when he will commence in the role of COO.

These two appointments, along with the recent elevation of Human Resources Manager, Bonnie Fitzpatrick, to the Executive Leadership Team, completes Council's Executive.

In other staffing developments Mr Roncon will take on the duties previously handled by Council's Manager of Strategic City Development.

"With the addition of a COO and CFO I now have more time to focus on the strategic development of Broken Hill and its economy," he said.

"It's a facet of Local Government that I really enjoy, and I look forward to working closely with staff, local businesses, the Mayor, and other Councillors in this area."
