Artists wishing to showcase their creativity and promote recycling have less than a week to get their entries in to the 2018 Waste to Art competition.
The annual competition features creative works made from reused and recyclable waste materials, and aims to challenge peoples’ perceptions about ‘rubbish’ and to celebrate the reuse and recycling of waste through arts and crafts.
A specific waste item is featured as part of Waste to Art each round in an attempt to highlight problem issues, and this year is the Year of Polystyrene.
The competition is open to schools, community groups and individuals, and entries close at 5pm on 14 May.
Entry forms for Waste to Art are available from the Albert Kersten Mining and Mineral Museum (GeoCentre) or the NetWaste website www.netwaste.org.au.
The Waste to Art exhibition will open at the GeoCentre on 19 May, and works will be on display until 1 July.
Winning artworks from the local competition will be featured in the Waste to Art Regional Competition in Narromine on 22 June, and artists will be eligible for a share of $9000 in prizes.
