Fairfield community wins much-needed fitness equipment for their hospital

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said the Let’s Move for a Better World campaign counted each ‘move’ by community participants on the Prairiewood Leisure Centre’s cardio exercise equipment during a three week period in March. 

“Two million moves would give the hospital $5,000 worth of much-needed quality exercise equipment from Council’s fitness equipment supplier for recovering patients to use.  

“Council put out the call for residents to get fit and healthy and offered free use of the Leisure Centre’s cardio equipment during the campaign,” Mayor Carbone said.

“Council would like to thank residents for enthusiastically embracing the challenge and donating their moves toward the cause, which resulted in the hospital receiving exercise bike equipment for its patients.

“This was a great campaign that was a win for both residents, who are healthier, and existing and future patients at our local hospital.

“Council takes the community’s health seriously. We have plans for a future Health and Wellbeing Precinct at Cabravale Leisure Centre for the community including seniors, people living with disability and people recovering from health conditions. 

“Council is also installing more outdoor fitness equipment this year and there is almost 1000km of footpaths and cycleways across the City. 

“I encourage everyone to get out and about with family and friends and use the many Council provided facilities to get fit and healthy.”
