The North Sydney Community Strategic Plan 2013-2023 (9MB) identifies that improved walking and cycling connections are a key priority for the community.
As part of Council’s response, designs for a number of walking and cycling improvements have been developed including a cycleway along the northern side of Ridge St (between West St and Miller St).
The works are part of the Route 5 Cycleway and Streetscape Improvement Plan.

The works to be constructed as part of this contract include the construction of a new bi-directional separated cycleway, pedestrian improvements and new traffic calming.
And the traffic control signals at the intersection of Miller St and Ridge St will be modified, this being majority-funded by RMS under Active Transport Priority Cycleways Program.
Landscaping works and public domain improvements are also included as part of these works. The works were endorsed by the North Sydney Traffic Committee on 24 March 2017 and by Council on 1 May 2017.
