UNIVERSITY, COUNCIL AND TRANSPORT FOR NSW CONSIDER OPTIONS TO RETAIN FREE SERVICE

Positive progress was made towards retaining the Free Gong Shuttle when Transport for NSW (TfNSW) officials met with senior representatives from Wollongong City Council (WCC) and the University of Wollongong (UOW) today, Thursday 31 May 2018.

The cordial and constructive discussions focused on maintaining services at existing levels for weekdays. The discussion also considered the frequency and hours of operation for weekend and public holidays. The overall aim of the meeting was to move towards a solution to manage operating costs within the total funding available from the NSW Government, Council and the University.

All parties believe it is likely that a solution will be found that will minimise the impact of any service changes on the community. It is intended that the parties will meet again within the next two weeks, with a shared aim of reaching a satisfactory resolution ahead of the June 30 deadline.
