Mildura Rural City Council is inviting Sunraysia’s green thumbs to help celebrate National Tree Day at Red Cliffs’ Quandong Park this weekend.
Council, with the community’s help, is aiming to plant 300 trees around the park this Sunday from 10.30am.
Councillor for Environmental and Farming Sustainability Anthony Cirillo said the event would provide benefits for the entire community.
“Our National Tree Day event will help further beautify the Quandong Park area, while also increasing biodiversity,” Cr Cirillo said.
“This is a great location around which to base our National Tree Day celebrations given it’s such a popular venue throughout the year, used by locals and visitors alike.”
Cr Cirillo said Council’s National Tree Day celebration would be held a couple of months earlier than the official day (27 July), allowing the fresh plantings more time to get established ahead of the hotter summer months in Sunraysia.
“Based on our previous National Tree Day activities, we’ve seen strong support for the event, which is also a great way to meet new, like-minded people,” he said.
Residents intending to take part are asked to wear appropriate clothing, including good sturdy shoes and long pants.
Council will provide gloves as well as drinking water and sunscreen. A barbecue lunch will also be provided to conclude the event.
Sunday’s tree-planting will start at 10.30am and finish about 12:00 PM.
