Moree Plains Shire Council’s Mayor Cr Katrina Humphries has welcomed the appointment of former Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Warren Truss, as Chair of the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, the Hon Michael McCormack MP.

“As a former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Mr Truss was a key driving force in delivering funding for Inland Rail,” Cr Humphries said.

“Mr Truss is well experienced in the delivery of significant infrastructure investments with intimate knowledge of Australia’s growing freight task and a strong understanding of regional Australia,” said Cr Humphries.

The Mayor said “that the Inland Rail is the largest freight rail infrastructure project in Australia, contributing to the strength of our country. The Inland Rail will transform the way we move our agricultural and other goods to market, linking regional farms and businesses to local and export opportunities.”

As Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Mr Truss was the keynote speaker and formally opened the Inland Rail Symposium 2014, which was facilitated by Moree Plains Shire Council.

Mayor Cr Katrina Humphries said “the Inland Rail is a fantastic project and this Council has been working closely with key groups across the agribusiness and logistics sectors as well as with the ARTC in development of the Inland Rail to make sure Moree, the Shire and our Region are fully on board and working to get the best benefits for our communities that we can”.
