MEDIA RELEASE 9 May 2018
The Hickory Dickory Clock is on the countdown to National Simultaneous Storytime which will be held at Bathurst Library on Wednesday, 23 May at 11.00am.
This year’s book, Hickory Dickory Dash, is for anyone who has ever wondered just why the mouse was running up the clock as it struck one.
Mayor Graeme Hanger OAM, who will read the book at storytime, said this is an opportunity for the community to come together and get involved in a national event.
“National Simultaneous Storytime aims to promote the value of reading and literacy. Australian writers, illustrators, publishers and public libraries in the community are a vital facet of our daily lives,” he said.
Activities include a colouring competition to win book prizes donated by Books Plus. Stories and rhymes will be presented by Library staff.
National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual event held by the Australian Library and Information Association. A picture book written and illustrated by an Australian is read simultaneously across the country in libraries, schools, child-care centres, bookshops and family homes.
The event is run during Library and Information Week and has been running successfully for 18 years.
The Library offers regular free story time sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. For more information and bookings for large groups, please contact the team at Bathurst Library on 6333 6281.
