The Weethalle Silo Art mural is featured in a limited edition Australia Post postage stamp being launched on Monday 21 May.
The $1 stamp is part of a special collector’s edition release which celebrates four of Australia’s most iconic silo art murals including Weethalle, Brim in Victoria, Ravensthorpe in Western Australia and Thallon in Queensland.
To celebrate the historic release, Bland Shire Council is holding an official launch at 10am on Monday 21 May at the silos. Stamps and special edition booklets will be available for sale to the public immediately following the launch.
The Weethalle Silo Art mural was commissioned by Bland Shire Council, in consultation with silo owners and project partners Paul and Jenny Northey, and painted by Melbourne artist Heesco Khosnaran. It was officially opened in July last year and is the first silo to be painted in New South Wales.
Since the opening, the silos have attracted tens of thousands of visitors and been viewed by more than one million people online. They will now reach an even wider audience through the stamp release.
The mural features a shearer holding a merino sheep while a farmer surveys his golden crop of ripened wheat with a combine harvester working in the background. The intense palette of the mural was inspired by the artist’s perception of the local environment.
All members of the community are invited and encouraged to attend the launch which will be followed by a Devonshire tea at the adjacent Weethalle Whistlestop.
