Council adopts long term plan for Scenic Eastern Escarpment

Blue Mountains City Council has adopted a long term plan for the scenic eastern escarpment that will guide the future development of nature and culture based recreation and tourism opportunities in the lower Blue Mountains.

Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill said, “The Master Plan is key to obtaining significant State and Commonwealth investment in recreation infrastructure for the community.”

“The southern escarpment is well known as a national and international tourist destination, the eastern escarpment offers a wide range of recreational activities; supports a rich diversity of vegetation communities; and showcases important Aboriginal and European heritage.”

The precinct extends from Darks Common in the south, adjoining Blue Mountains National Park to Knapsack Reserve in the north and connecting with Yellomundee Regional Park. It is bounded by the residential areas of Glenbrook, Blaxland, Winmalee, Mt Riverview, Yellow Rock and Hawkesbury Heights to the west, and Lapstone, Emu Plains, Leonay and Emu Heights, and the Nepean River to the east.

The Mayor said the Scenic Eastern Escarpment Masterplan, as with all of Council’s strategic plans, was developed in partnership with the community. 

“I would like to thank residents, interest groups and neighbouring land managers who contributed to the plan and help shape the future of this important precinct,” he said. “This plan offers a coordinated approach to providing recreational opportunities and responding to the growing interest in, and demand for, recreational and cultural experiences.”
