ClubGRANTS

ClubGRANTS is a community development funding program sponsored by local clubs, but administered by Council.

The program is designed to ensure that the larger registered clubs in NSW contribute to the provision of front-line services in their local communities; and to ensure that the disadvantaged in the community are better positioned to benefit from the substantial contributions made by those clubs. The scheme enables registered clubs with an annual gaming machine revenue exceeding $1 million, to apply 1.85% of their gaming machine revenue to community development and support projects.

ClubGRANTS Category 1 is for expenditure on specific community welfare and social services, community development, community health services and employment assistance activities. In particular, expenditure on projects and services that contribute to the welfare and broader social fabric of the local community, and that are aimed at improving the living standards of low income and disadvantaged people.

The participating club in our area is Norths (North Sydney Leagues Club), in Cammeray.

North Sydney ClubGRANTS requires applicants to apply online, and within that application, to respond to this target question: Q. How does this project provide significant impact for people who are socially and financially disadvantaged, and socially isolated, or who have other high needs?

Applications for 2018 are now closed.  The next funding round will open in March 2019

March: Applications open end of the month.

May: Applications close at the end of the month.

June: Applications are assessed by the North Sydney ClubGRANTS committee and recommendations made to the club.

July: Recommendations are presented the Norths Club board for approval.

August:  Successful applicants are advised by the club and funding distributed by the end of the month.

North Sydney ClubGRANT Category 1 received applications for over $500,000 in the 2017 funding round. Approximately a quarter of applications were able to be funded. Successful organisations and projects were:

Naremburn Family Centre Infants & Families Program

Provide programs and learning tools for new parents and children in supported playgroups, bringing babies home, infant massage and Keeping Kids in Mind programs. Early intervention programs which help to identify concerns and provide access to support services.

Dance Chance Incorporated

Dance classes for people with a disability. Through the joy of dance we are able to provide social and community benefits to people with a physical or intellectual disability. Participants are aged from 5 - 76 years old and the dancers and volunteers are from a range of culturally diverse backgrounds.

Gidget Foundation

Gidget House provides free psychological support for pregnant women and new parents suffering anxiety and depression. Patients attending Gidget House receive appropriate care, preventing an escalation of problems and limiting the negative impact on family wellbeing.

The Kirribilli Centre

The Wellbeing for Mothers group aims to improve the emotional and physical wellbeing of women suffering from postnatal depression. The weekly service includes group discussions and counselling sessions with a qualified psychologist to equip mothers with coping strategies and provides a valuable support network for participants.

North Sydney Benevolent Association

Mary's House provides assistance to women and children who are victims of domestic violence .

Phoenix House Youth Services

Provides services to marginalised young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. This program supports young people gain living skills and access educational and training programs.

North Sydney Police Citizens Youth Club

PCYC provides a youth fitness program which targets school truancy and educates young people about healthy lifestyle, proper eating habits and personal hygiene.

St Vincent de Paul

Works with people who are homeless and assists them to access short and longer term accommodation. In addition, St Vincent de Paul assists women and children transitioning from Mary's House refuge into new homes with furniture, whitegoods and household items.

Taldumande Youth Services

Provides 24/7 crisis accommodation to homeless young people who need financial support to access services and items including food, clothing education and training and personal care items.

Kids Like Brett Campaign

Funds raised go toward the purchase of medical equipment for Children's Hospitals

Learning Links

This funding goes towards an occupational therapist who will work with children who struggle in the classroom in our local public primary schools. Intensive support is provided to support children with learning difficulties.

Vision Australia

Provides services to clients who are blind or vision impaired.
