Councillors vote on new Smarter Parking Plan community consultation

The City of Ballarat has voted to proceed with a detailed community consultation program around parking in the CBD and Health and Knowledge Precinct.

The council voted tonight to:

1. Undertake a detailed community engagement program in respect to a changed parking approach to the CBD, Health and Knowledge Precinct, and immediate surrounds inclusive of:

· A paid parking regime for the entire area

· A residential parking permit scheme to accommodate residents in the area

· Technology to support the usability and enforcement of paid parking and residential parking permits

2. Require a further report to council on a date to be determined by the chief executive officer to address

· The results of the community engagement program

· A recommended position on:

i. Paid parking

ii. Residential parking permit scheme

iii. Technology to support any implemented program

· An implementation program for the recommended options inclusive of all financial implications

· An evaluation and review regime for the recommended position
