Groove at Garageworks

Bankstown Arts Centre is set to host a series of monthly music nights aimed at showcasing the mix of talented artists in western Sydney.

Beginning on Friday 25 May, 7-10pm, Garageworks will include performances from:

Slim Set – a rap duo which draws inspiration from grime, club music and MC culture and boasts a hybrid, high-octane sound;Kimchi Princi – an independent rapper, who will feature in Slim Set’s performance;Dominic Talarico – a pop musician whose work explores desire and turbulence; andAilsa Liu – an artist who works across experimental fiction and poetry, soundscapes and installation.

Kalanjay Dhir, one half of Slim Set, said he can’t wait to show Canterbury-Bankstown what local artists have to offer.

"Audiences should expect a lot of energy, fast wordplay and hectic beats from our performance," the rapper known as MC Dev said.

"We’re tired of the monopoly the east CBD has on venues, nightlife and culture, so playing in different areas is a real plus for us. And, we love Canterbury-Bankstown.

"Garageworks is great for the community to see what’s in their own backyard, establish artistic connections and exchange ideas."

Mayor Khal Asfour said Garageworks gives local musicians an opportunity to branch out from jamming in residential garages and studios.

"There are a few spots still available so I encourage interested musicians to contact the Arts Centre and get involved," Mayor Asfour said.

"This is also an opportunity for residents to experience something a little different as well."
