A prominent gateway to Gisborne will be created once Macedon Ranges Shire Council completes landscaping on two new roundabouts at the Station Road intersection.
The distinctive landscaping on the north and south roundabouts will reference lava formations in the local area, with drifts of native plantings flowing out amongst contrasting stone mulch from the centre point.
There may be some minor disruptions to traffic flow during the landscaping works, as one lane may be closed at times. The work is due to begin after the long weekend in June and continue for about five weeks.
The striking flowing patterns of the planting design will be seen by motorists passing through the roundabout and will also be eye-catching from above to vehicles approaching the off-ramps or crossing the freeway bridge.
Planting will consist of shrubs of a maximum one-metre height in the centre of the roundabouts, reducing to low grasses and groundcovers at the edges to allow for safe sightlines for drivers.
Tough, drought-tolerant native plants with interesting foliage colours and textures have been selected to cope with site conditions and provide year-round visual interest.
A few carefully selected small ornamental native trees will be scattered within the centre planting.
The two large roundabouts at the freeway intersections were recently installed by VicRoads. The landscaping works are being jointly funded by VicRoads and Council.
