‘By 2050 there will be more plastic in the sea than fish’ – that’s one of the stark warnings contained in the award-winning movie ‘Blue’ which is showing at Key Employment Youth Hub on June 15 for free as part of the local Plastic Free July campaign.

“Plastic pollution is now a global, as well as a huge local concern,” said Louise de Mattia, Council’s Waste Education Officer. “But it’s a conversation that’s sparking action all over the world – and the message from the movie is that each individual can make a difference and help reverse this enormous ocean disaster.”

Aimed at youth aged 12-24, but open to the parents/guardians of children aged under 15, the outdoor screening is a collaboration between Council, Key Employment Youth Hub and KaPow participants.

Screening begins at 6pm at the Youth Hub in West High Street, but the event runs from 4pm-9pm with loads of family-friendly entertainment including:

Live music from False Faces, the Woopi duo with soulful, fun tunes. They also won the Youth Week Battle of the Bands in Coffs. Free use of the basketball courts. Food trucks with hot drinks – coffee, tea and hot chocolate by Seben Café – and hot organic donuts by Dylan’s Organic Donuts for sale. Plenty of parking. BYO sleeping bag, chair, or rug.
