Council votes in favour of Lake Jindabyne foreshore No Stopping Areas - Mayoral Column 13 June 2018

I hope everyone enjoyed a safe and relaxing long weekend. With the busy winter period now upon us, we are starting to see plenty of traffic on our roads. In the last few weeks there have been a number of serious accidents on the Monaro Highway. Please drive to the conditions and be safe on our roads. Taking a little longer to arrive at your destination is much better than not arriving at all.

Last Thursday, the first Council Meeting for June was held. A number of interesting presentations were delivered from community members. If you wish to catch-up on the Council Meeting, the webcast is available on Council’s website.

Councillors voted in favour of implementing No Stopping Areas along the Lake Jindabyne foreshore. Signs will be installed at the following locations: Wollondibby Inlet, the Claypits, Town Centre and Townsend St/Cobbon Cr.

Council has installed No Stopping Areas following community calls to deter overnight camping along the foreshore. These areas will operate from 6pm to 7am (in the town centre/bowling club precinct the new restrictions will commence at 11pm).

Council recognises this is a temporary measure for the current winter season and will look for a permanent solution to control and regulate camping on the foreshore.

The Viewing Platform will be incorporated in the Therry St redevelopment with the precinct set to become a must visit for locals and tourists alike. Last week, I reminded you that the process for requesting donations and sponsorship from Council has changed. If you are a community group, individual or hosting an event that requires donations/sponsorship (between July –December 2018), then your application must be submitted by the end of June.
