The Royal Military College Duntroon cadets have finished their training exercises in Cooma with the final scenario completed at the end of last week. I would like to thank RMC for coming to Cooma, and for their friendly and approachable manner. The cadets enjoyed the hospitality our community offered, and were very appreciative of your support. Our businesses enjoyed the boost, and around 500 people attended the RMC Open Day. RMC has indicated their willingness to return to Cooma.
Submissions are now open for community groups and individuals seeking a Council donation/sponsorship for the period of July-December 2018. If you have an event, an activity or after Council assistance in the way of a donation/sponsorship for this period, then you need to submit your application by the end of June.
Council has changed the way it manages requests for donations/sponsorships. Applications will be considered twice-yearly, rather than monthly. This will enable a more efficient process for considering requests. It also means you will need to think ahead.
On Thursday, Councillors will meet for the first Ordinary Council Meeting in June. The meeting will be held in the Cooma Council Chambers at 5pm, and will be webcast. There are a number of important items for Council to consider and one of these is the water and sewer pricing for the next financial year.
The water and sewer pricing model that Council will vote upon is based on the user pays principle. This means residents have greater control over the amount they pay for their water usage. The proposal will see residents pay $3.06/KL, and the pricing model reflects the best practice approach.
I would like to congratulate the volunteers who have established Snowy’s Place at the Cooma Hub. Snowy’s Place is a social café that offers a safe place and lovely meal to those in need, lonely or seeking friendship. Each Monday, Snowy’s Place is open from 12pm-1pm.
It’s not too late to have your say on Council’s Delivery Program and Operational Plan. Submissions must be in by the COB on Wednesday 6 June.
