Work on Candlagan Bridge in Broulee has stopped temporarily so council can investigate the extent of the corrosion in the steel reinforcement.

The corrosion was found to be greater than expected during the refurbishment of the bridge which began in June this year.

Eurobodalla Shire Council is now working with specialists to carry out assessments of the bridge's load carrying capacity and to determine the best method for repairing the damage.

The assessments will take place over the next month. During this time, one lane of the bridge will remain open, managed by traffic lights.
