Botanic Gardens joins Adult Ed to deliver new courses

Council and the Eurobodalla Adult Education Centre have teamed up to offer a new series of short Botanica Spring courses throughout September at the Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Gardens.

To mark the onset of spring, the short courses will be on floristry, propagation, botanical illustration and mosaic making and will be run on weekends at the gardens.

Eurobodalla Shire Council Mayor, Lindsay Brown, says the courses are part of a pilot program that will reflect the unique nature of the gardens.

"Each Botanica Spring course will take advantage of the beautiful setting provided by our Botanic Gardens which showcase the flora and fauna of our region," said Cr Brown.

"If the spring program is successful it may lead to more courses being offered by council and Adult Ed at the Botanic Gardens during summer, autumn and winter."

The Eurobodalla is rich in local artists and craftspeople and the Mayor says they may be keen to present courses at the Gardens if the spring program proves successful.

"In the future, we would like to look at partnering with Adult Education again with a view to local artists and craftspeople presenting courses on paper making, weaving, photography, sculpture and bush tucker," he said.

Cr Brown is excited that council and Eurobodalla Adult Education can now offer some fun and education at the Gardens to adults as well as children who regularly enjoy the new Play Space and the mud cubby.

"Visitation to the Gardens is growing significantly and they are increasingly becoming a must-do attraction for tourists and locals of all ages," Cr Brown said.

Eurobodalla Adult Education will handle all the bookings and enquiries related to the Botanica Spring program and the Mayor says the provider was a logical partner with its proven track record of delivering popular quality courses by skilled and enthusiastic tutors.
