Eurobodalla Shire Council Mayor, Lindsay Brown, is inviting residents to join him and the Nelligen Playground Project Committee in a pirate-themed celebration at Nelligen Park this Sunday 11 August from 11.30am to 1.30pm.
The celebration will mark the completion of the new pirate ship playground and other improvements that have revitalised the foreshore area.
"Come along in your best pirate gear, join in the games and enjoy a free sausage sizzle," said Cr Brown.
"I look forward to seeing you there!"
As well as the new playground, the Mayor says Nelligen foreshore now has a new rock retaining wall underneath the timber wharf, a new double barbeque and two and four seater picnic tables, trees and new pathways to the wharf plus extra parking and better lighting.
The $258,000 revitalisation was carried out by council in stages over the last 12 months and was completed last week.
The Mayor extends his congratulations to the Nelligen Playground Project Committee. "The funds raised by the committee have made the playground possible. I know children living in and visiting the area will really love the pirate ship," Cr Brown said.
The recently completed work in Nelligen now complements the boat ramp and parking upgrade completed by council in 2011.
