Live Life Eurobodalla and the YMCA have teamed up with AUSTSWIM NSW to provide a free swim teacher training and water safety course for Indigenous community members.
The training is available to residents interested in pursuing a career in Swim and Water Safety and is designed to provide them with a pathway to potential paid work over the summer months.
Mayor Lindsay Brown says Eurobodalla Shire Council has worked closely with AUSTSWIM to get as many free swim training programs for local residents as possible.
"With so much water around us in Eurobodalla, we need to make sure that our community has opportunities to become competent swimmers," said Cr Brown. "This course for Indigenous residents is the third free program to be offered since 2012."
The two and a half day program begins on Friday 16 August at 11.30am with an introductory session and includes a free BBQ lunch. The following two days will run from 9am to 4pm.
"All the sessions are practical and include water based training. There are no prerequisites to participating and council can provide transport assistance if it is required," Cr Brown said.
