Local Government Elections 2017

On Saturday 9 September 2017 the election of 15 Councillors for Woollahra Municipal Council will take place. There are 5 wards within the Municipal Council area: Bellevue Hill Ward, Cooper Ward, Double Bay Ward, Paddington Ward and Vaucluse Ward.

The election will be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Act 1993 and the Local Government (General) Regulation 2005 and Council has appointed the NSW Electoral Commission (NSWEC) to administer the election.

Electoral Roll

The Electoral Roll is prepared and maintained by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC). New residents should complete the electoral enrolment form and forward it to the AEC. Enrolment forms can be obtained from the AEC website or any Australia Post Office.

Roll of Non-Residential Owners of Rateable Land

Council is required to prepare a roll of non-resident owners of rateable land for the election.

The roll of non-resident owners consists only of the names of those non-resident owners of rateable land who have applied for the inclusion of their names for the purposes of the election for which it is being prepared. Even if you have been on a roll of non-resident owners for a previous election you will still need to apply to Council again to be on the roll for the 2017 election.

Roll of Occupiers and Rate paying Lessees

Council is also required to prepare a roll of occupiers (of land within the area) and rate paying lessees (of rateable land within the area) for the election.

The roll of occupiers and rate paying lessees consists only of the names of those occupiers and rate paying lessees who have applied for the inclusion of their names for the purposes of the election for which it is being prepared. Even if you have been on a roll of occupiers and rate paying lessees for a previous election you will still need to apply to Council again to be on the roll for the 2017 election.

If you wish to claim inclusion on the Roll of Non-Residential Owners or Roll of Occupiers and Rate paying Lessees please complete the relevant attached form and return it to the General Manager by 6pm on Monday, 31 July 2017.

Voting

Voting is compulsory for all residents of the Woollahra Local Government Area who are registered on the electoral roll. Electors enrolled for Federal and State elections are automatically enrolled for their local Council area.
