East Gippsland Shire Council is hosting a free community film screening of award-winning film ‘Bag It’ at the Lakes Entrance Mechanics Hall on Friday, June 8 from 6.45pm.
‘Bag It’ is a touching and often funny film, that follows everyman Jeb Berrier as he embarks on a global tour to unravel the complexities of our plastic world.
Globally, thousands of tonnes of plastic enter our waterways and oceans each year.
It has been estimated that ocean surface waters alone could contain over five trillion plastic pieces, weighing over 250,000 tonnes.
Plastics in the environment break up into smaller and smaller pieces over time.
This means that the impacts of plastic pollution are long term, and can become increasingly difficult to manage.
There will be a short talk before the screening, and questions and answers by the knowledgeable Anthony Hill of Plastic Pollution Solutions.
A gold coin donation will go towards the new Twin Rivers Boomerang Bags group, a community-based organisation which aims to eliminate single-use plastic bags by making sturdy, reusable fabric bags from material which would otherwise be discarded.
There is no need to RSVP for the film screening and light refreshments will be provided.
This event has been organised by council, Twin Rivers Boomerang Bags (Project of Lakes Entrance Lions Club Inc) and Plastic Pollution Solutions.
