Kingston Council wins two top awards for high-quality community projects

The City of Kingston was won two major industry awards for its quality design of a new Life Saving Club and a major stormwater drainage project.

The Mordialloc Life Saving Club and Aboriginal Gathering Place was awarded a 2018 Victorian Coastal Council Award for Improving the Physical Environment.

The judges commended the state-of-the-art facility for providing multiple benefits to the local community and visitors by combining a life saving club, recreational space and an Aboriginal Gathering Place to connect the aboriginal community, pass on skills, share cultural heritage and learn about our local cultural history.

The City of Kingston also received the 2018 Award of Excellence at the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia Awards, successfully winning the Environmental Sustainability award for the Edithvale Integrated Stormwater System.

The large-scale project captures and stores over one million litres of stormwater, diverting from the flood-prone residential area of Edithvale and instead using it to water local recreation reserves and sporting facilities.

Kingston Mayor Steve Staikos said he was thrilled to hear of the two awards that recognised the highquality projects being delivered across the community.

“We’re very proud of the results of these two great projects, which represent the efforts and investment underway across Kingston,” Cr Staikos said.

“These awards recognise and commend the expertise and dedication of our staff, who care deeply about the community and want to ensure we deliver the best facilities money can buy.

“Council invests many millions of dollars each year to provide high-quality community infrastructure including sporting facilities, kindergartens, roads and footpaths, community centres and much more.”
