The Bayside Street Art Crew has completed a series of murals in Peterson Reserve and Thomas Street Park as part of the program to stop illegal graffiti in the community.
Council’s initiative was funded by a $23,300 graffiti prevention grant from the Department of Justice and run in partnership with Victoria Police, offering three programs to young people over six-weeks.
Bayside Mayor, Cr Laurence Evans said that Council is committed to the prevention and deterrence of “tagging” and graffiti across Bayside.
“We are dedicated to effectively managing graffiti by prevention, removal and enforcement strategies across the municipality.
“This project provides effective means to educate young people and we hope it will make a positive difference in explaining the damaging impact graffiti can have on individuals, families and the community,” Cr Evans said.
The Bayside Street Art Crew participated in a series of workshops to learn specific techniques of street art. They were given the opportunity to come up with the concept behind each mural and paint the finished product with assistance from local artists.
The murals will help to transform vandalism hotspots and showcase the diversity and creativity of the young people in Bayside.
