Tingha poll brewing as leading topic for Cuppa

The result of community poll on a proposal to transfer Tingha and surrounds to the Inverell Shire will be high on the agenda when Armidale Regional Council holds the second Councillors’ Cuppa in Tingha on Sunday 1 July.

The community information session, giving residents the chance to speak informally with their councillors, will be held in Tingha Town Hall from noon to 1.30pm.

Armidale Regional Council Mayor Simon Murray said today the outcome of the postal poll, asking residents whether they supported an amendment of the local government area boundary to shift Tingha and surrounding properties to the Inverell district, was sure to be a leading topic.

“Wednesday 20 June is the deadline for residents to return their completed polling forms, so we will be able to notify residents at the Councillors’ Cuppa about the result,” Councillor Murray said.

“The event will also be an opportunity to inform residents about the next steps Council will take in determining its position on the boundary proposal.”

However, he said there were sure to be many other issues raised by residents during the Cuppa.

“The Cuppas are designed to allow residents to speak informally with councillors about whatever topic they want to raise,” Cr Murray said.

“We’ll put on a free barbecue and boil the kettle for anyone who wants to come along and discuss Council-related issues that are important to them.

“We received great feedback from the Wollomombi residents when their village hosted the inaugural Councillor Cuppa in May.”

Cr Murray announced a full list of venues and dates of Councillors’ Cuppas for the rest of the year: •1 July 2018 – Tingha: noon •21 August 2018 – Hillgrove: 6pm •19 September 2018  - Ben Lomond: 6.30pm •13 October – Boorolong Woolshed: 11.45am •18 November – Ebor Public School: 4pm

“Black Mountain, Wards Mistake, Guyra and Wongwibinda have also been earmarked for Councillors’ Cuppas in the new year,” he said.

“The Cuppas are part of Council’s efforts to get out to communities throughout our region.”
