The overall aim of the strategy was to research the Freight and Logistics task around Ararat and direct future growth, opportunity and investment in the industry.
The strategy identified a number themes based on opportunities to support freight activity in the Ararat region including:
• Utilizing railway potential
• Servicing road freight vehicles
• Supporting local industries
• Improved access to industrial lands
• A new industrial cluster
The draft strategy provides recommendations for future investment in freight and logistics which is based on evidence and meets the needs of the local and regional economy into the future.
A key recommendation is the development of a service centre at the interchange of the Western Highway and Pyrenees Highway, with connections to an industrial cluster to the north of the town.
As part of the planning for the Ararat Bypass it is important that the township takes advantage of the opportunities that project will bring. Directing growth and infrastructure to service industry will be essential to the township’s future.
The strategy has been prepared by Ararat Rural City Council in consultation with Regional Development Victoria, VicRoads, DELWP, Transport Victoria and local businesses. The document is currently on exhibition for public comment until September, 17.
The strategy can be viewed here or in person at the Municipal Office on the corner of Vincent and High Street.
