Bulldogs looking for young Ararat leaders

Ararat Rural City Council Mayor, Cr Paul Hooper was joined at Alexandra Oval on Monday by Western Bulldogs premiership star Liam Picken, rookie Roarke Smith and new recruit Fergus Green.

The AFL players were in Ararat to help launch nominations for the Western Bulldogs Leadership Project.

The Project is a six month social leadership program for young people in Year 9 or 10, male and females, emerging leaders – young people who are displaying leadership potential who aren't yet engaged in a leadership program and representatives from a cross section of the community.

Ararat Rural City Council is participating in the program in conjunction with Northern Grampians Shire and Central Grampians LLEN.

Mayor, Cr Paul Hooper said this was a fantastic opportunity to engage with youth in the Ararat Rural City.

“Just because this is a Western Bulldogs run program doesn’t mean candidates have to excel athletically or even play sport to be considered,” Cr Hooper said.

“We are looking for self-motivated young people with the potential to become future leaders in our community.”

Workshops will be delivered between March and September.
