Community consultation for Ararat Skate Park plans

Ararat Rural City Council and Ararat Skate Park Committee are inviting the community to come and have a say on upgrades to the Bill Waterston Ararat Skate Park.

The committee and Council have been working together to improve the precinct, and with funding from the Federal Stronger Communities Program, the group has been able to employ the services of Baseplate Designers and Playce Landscaping to produce a plan to upgrade the skate park and improve the entire precinct.

Ararat Rural City Council CEO Andrew Evans said the project has so far been driven by passionate users.

“For me the most pleasing aspect during the planning phase of this project to date has been the input of young users of this skate park,” he said.

“We have two to three teenagers that are on the Skate Park Committee who have been attending the meetings and giving their feedback on designs and it is great to see the passion and pride they are showing.”

The consultation will be held at the Ararat Fitness Centre between 6pm and 8pm on Wednesday, November 16.

Darren White, principal designer from Baseplate, will attend the session to hear ideas and suggestions from the community on both the skate park elements and potential other uses of the area.

The Skate Park Committee has so far raised more than $70,000 in cash and grants funding.

“We have been really happy and humbled with the amount of community support,” Skate Park Committee member John Cranstoun said

“We are really excited about these plans being completed. There will be some shade go up soon, and we will use these plans to look for further funding.

“We want Ararat to have the Skate Park it deserves”.
