Dylan Alcott OAM, joined local business owners at the Bayside Business Network on Tuesday 19 June, to speak about making a more inclusive and empowered workforce for people with disabilities.
As a local resident of Bayside and founder of Get Skilled Access, Dylan is passionate about breaking down the barriers and changing people’s perceptions for the millions of Australian’s who have a disability.
Dylan’s journey to become one of Australia’s most successful and well recognised Paralympians is both inspiring and extraordinary.
Dylan, a dual sport athlete, has represented Australia on the international stage in both wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis since the age of 13. He’s a double-gold medallist and a five time Grand Slam tennis champion.
With more that 30% of Bayside residents - who either have a disability or have a person in their family with a disability – Council offers opportunities for local businesses within Bayside to foster greater participation and inclusion.
The Inclusive Bayside Partnership Program provides funding to Bayside organisations through community grants of up to $5,000 each. These grants can be used to deliver programs, events or purchase equipment to ensure the inclusion of people with a disability within the local area.
The program is now closed for 2018 and will re-open in early 2019, for more information contact Lauren Waycott, Acting Community Wellbeing Coordinator on 9599 4686.
